How can I become a Kaitiaki of Mokoia?
Mokoia Island Trust and DOC have a partnership that aims to keep Mokoia predator/pest free for survival, growth, regeneration of our native flora and fauna especially our birds such as the kiwi and kokako.
To assist with the work involved in this, DOC organise and run regular quarantine courses, and also bait setting and monitoring programs. These are run throughout the year and give those with a passion in protecting our taonga a tangible way to achieve this.
These courses and programs are run at no cost to participants, and include visits to Mokia as part of the training. News of upcoming courses can be found on the news tab on this website.
Do you want to help in the protection and preservation of Mokoia in other ways?
The Mokoia Island Trust is looking at setting up Friends Of Mokoia. To learn more about this initiative please click on the Friends of Mokoia tab on this website.
